DEDICATED volunteers at the popular outdoor pool in Cirencester have received a prestigious award from the King.

The team at Cirencester Open Air Swimming Pool have officially received The King's Award for Voluntary Service.

The presentation was made on Saturday, May 11 by the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, Edward Gillespie and by one of his deputies, Air Marshal Sir David Walker.

The historic pool first opened in 1870 and is situated in Riverside Walk Thomas Street between Cecily Hill and The Mead.

It was granted charitable status in 1983 and volunteers have been running it over since.

The accolade is awarded for life, and acknowledges the dedication and commitment of volunteers, spanning from the 1970s to this day.

The award was received by two trustees, David Wright and Georgia Mercier.

A statement from the Trustees reads: “We are deeply honoured to receive The King's Award for Voluntary Service.

"This recognition is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our volunteers who tirelessly contribute their time and energy to the pool's upkeep and improvement.

“It is their passion and commitment that truly make our pool a cherished asset for the community.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, past and present, whose selfless contributions have made this achievement possible.”

The pool is currently open this season until September 15.
