A NEW mayor has been appointed in Cirencester.
Passionate hairdresser and town councillor Sarah Orr has been elected mayor and has taken on the busy position from Sabrina Dixon.
Cllr Orr, who represents the New Mills Ward on Cirencester Town Council, first to moved to the Cotswold capital at just four years old with her family and instantly fell in love with the town's gorgeous green spaces.
She studied at Deer Park School and went onto train as a hairdresser, an occupation she still loves today.
One of her clients encouraged her to become a town councillor five years ago as they recognised how passionate she was about the community and her volunteer work.
Cllr Orr described Cllr Dixon as a 'wonderful' mayor and someone she has learnt a lot from over the last year.
The new mayor is particularly looking forward to switching on the town's twinkly Christmas lights at the highly anticipated Advent Market event this winter.
She said another highlight will be laying a wreath in the town centre on Remembrance Sunday.
The new mayor said: "I first got involved with the town council because of one of my clients told me that I would be great councillor, so I went for it.
"I love being involved with community projects and volunteering.
"Cirencester Town Council is voluntary, so you have to enjoy it.
"Sabrina has been very supportive which has helped my confidence grow.
"She was a wonderful mayor, and working with her for the last year has taught me a great deal.
"We’ve become good friends as a result and I know she will be there for me should I need any help.
"I’ve lived and worked in Cirencester my whole adult life as a hairdresser, so I’ve met a lot of people over the years which helps at Cirencester Town Council as I’m able to talk to people with confidence.
"I love it here in Cirencester.
"I particularly adore our outdoor spaces, all maintained by our land and property team.
"We are very lucky to have such beautiful open spaces.
"Cirencester is my home and always will be."
