Residents of Cirencester returned recently from a drive to help the Ukraine in its struggle against Russia.

Nick Price the retired owner of Cirencester landscape contractors and swimming pool specialists, Bibury, donated the firm's pickup to the charity Pickups for Peace.

Nick and George Fairweather drove the vehicle loaded with wheelchairs, crutches and medical supplies to the Ukraine, a five day round trip.

Both men hail from Cirencester and have been friends since their student days at the Royal Agricultural College (RAC), now the Royal Agricultural University.

"We drove from Cirencester to Wroclaw in Poland," Nick explained, "where we joined a convoy of 36 other vehicles, including an ambulance, to Lviv in Ukraine where the vehicles and their loads were handed over to the Ukraine military."

Other RAC alumni also played a part in the venture, George explained: "Generous donations from the 72 Club, an association formed by a group who attended the RAC from 1969-1972, helped with the cost of fuel, accommodation and our return trip, by bus and train to Kràkow, then by air to Gatwick.Money in the fund left over was donated to Pickups for Peace."
