RENOVATION ideas which will bring life back to the deteriorating Old Station building in Cirencester must be submitted over the next few weeks.

The Grade II listed building, which is owned by the Cotswold District Council, first opened in 1841 but has been vacant for many years and is in desperate need of a revamp.

CDC recently agreed to invest £158,000 in carrying out urgent structural repairs to rebuild one of the station's external walls.

Engineers identified that the station's west wall was structurally unstable, due partially to extensive rot in structural timbers.

This wall is currently being supported by structural scaffolding and repair work is due to commence this month.

However, CDC still need significant investment to progress with a transformative project.

Potential partners, with resources and innovative business plans, have been asked to submit their vision for the historic building by Thursday, April 25.

The Old Memorial Cottages on the edge of the Sheep Street car park may also be included in any proposals.

Robert Weaver, chief executive at CDC, said: “As custodians of the Cotswold’s rich heritage we would like to see the Old Station restored and brought back into use for the community.

"That is why the council is inviting potential partners to join us in restoring the historic Old Station building.

“This Grade II listed landmark, holds immense potential, and we are looking for pragmatic investors and collaborators to help restore and repurpose this significant site.

"Let's work together to celebrate our past while creating a dynamic future for our community.”

Priority will be given to community and local business projects which complement the existing offer in the town.

Interested parties must email proposals to assets.enquiries@cotswold.gov.uk

Those expressing serious interest in the building will be invited to meet with lead officers to discuss proposals in more detail.
