POLICE have been clamping down on drivers exceeding the speed limit in the Malmesbury area.

Malmesbury Police officers were conducting speed checks on the B4040, outside the Horse and Groom pub, in Charlton on Thursday, February 15 and caught four drivers speeding.

The speed limit on the road is 30mph and one motorist was caught driving at 41mph.

All four offenders have been offered a speed awareness course.

At the beginning of the month, February 1, police caught 15 drivers speeding on the B4042 near the Lea Crescent bus stop.

A spokesperson for Malmesbury Police said: "A speed enforcement session was carried out outside the Horse and Groom pub and four vehicles have been issued with notices of intended prosecution for excessive speeding.

"Proceedings will now be undertaken to ensure the most appropriate outcome for the offenders takes place, which includes checking for MOT, insurance and point totters.

"Captured footage will be analysed for other offences like seat belts and mobile phone use."
