POLICE officers have been clamping down on drivers exceeding the speed limit on a busy road into Malmesbury.

Malmesbury Police officers were conducting speed checks on the B4042, near the Lea Crescent bus stop, on Thursday, February 1 and caught 15 drivers speeding.

The speed limit on the road is 40mph and one motorist was caught driving at 64mph. 

Out of the 15 speeders caught, 14 have been offered a speed awareness course and one driver has been fined £100 and will get three points added to their licence. 

A spokesperson for Malmesbury Police said: "Our speed enforcement team have been out at a new location.

"February 1st saw a new site in Lea, Lea Crescent to be enforced for the first time.

"So far 15 vehicles have been issued with notices of intended prosecution for excessive speeding.

"Proceedings will now be undertaken to ensure the most appropriate outcome for the offenders takes place, which includes checking for MOT, insurance and point totters.

"Captured footage will be analysed for other offences like seat belts and mobile phone use."
