A LONG-serving Wiltshire Police sergeant has been honoured for two decades of work.

Sergeant Jamie Ball received a Long Service Award from senior staff and was praised for his years of dedication to the force.

He joined the county’s police in June 2003 and started his duties with Chippenham Response Team, then went on to work with other teams in Malmesbury and Royal Wootton Bassett and completing attachments to the Drugs Squad and Pro-Active Team.

He preferred uniformed policing above all, achieved the Counter Terrorism Licenced Search Officer certification in 2009, and helped colleagues at the 2017 Champions League Final in Cardiff and the 2021 G7 Summit in Carbis Bay, Cornwall.

In 2014, Sgt Ball received a Chief Constable's Certificate of Commendation in recognition of his bravery and commitment to duty after responding to reports of a flat on fire and entering the property to search for casualties.

He received another commendation from the Chief Constable in 2017 for his outstanding teamwork in a murder investigation.

Since 2020, Sgt Ball has held leadership roles in Response and the Royal Wootton Bassett Neighbourhood Team.

In January 2023, he was appointed as the Chippenham Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “We are sure you’ll agree we feel lucky to have Sgt Ball here in Chippenham.

“Thank you for serving 20 years!”
