A MAJOR search involving a police helicopter is underway after a man attacked a woman in a park this afternoon.

The woman was injured in City Bank Park in Cirencester at around 2pm today, Thursday, February 1 by a man who is believed to have been carrying a knife.

She is being treated by paramedics, although her injuries are not believed to be serious.

It is not yet clear whether the injuries were caused by a knife.

A manhunt is now underway for the suspect - who is not believed to be known to the woman - with assistance from the National Police Air Service.

The offender is described as being slim, around 5ft 11ins to 6ft tall and is wearing a black puffer jacket with a covering across his face and black gloves.

Police said the incident may be linked to an earlier report of a man who followed a woman near Tesco Express in Chesterton Lane at around 1pm today.

The description given of the suspect in this incident is similar.

City Bank Park is a nature reserve located in the south of Cirencester, near the A429 Swindon Road.
