1. Tetbury Christmas spirit
It's truly appropriate and so fitting that the first picture story from Tetbury is the simple gesture that encapsulates the real Tetbury Christmas Spirit, which is when the always popular Christmas Carol float that is brought round every year by the Tetbury Fire crew on its joyful festive tour of the Town that culminated at the Tesco supermarket on the day of 23rd December, well they were welcomed by staff and shoppers alike.
A spokesman for the fire crew said after their last visit: "Greetings and thank you the good people of Tetbury! Every year we, the firefighters at Tetbury station along with our family, friends and former colleagues, bring this local tradition of lights, music and Christmas cheer right to your door!
"We all look forward to carol float nights, the fun and enjoyment that we see in the kid's (young and old!) faces make it very rewarding.
"That being said, we also like to raise money on behalf of The Fire Fighters Charity, who support us and our colleagues up and down the country. The work they do is so important, from physical rehabilitation- following injury or illness, looking after the families of our fallen brothers and sisters, to supporting for us if our mental well-being is in need."
This year they made a staggering £4,800 which proves how loved and respected they are especially in this current economic climate, thank you for making us all feel so safe
2. Plans for Cotswolds Comic Con
The plans are just being prepared for the next 2024 Cotswolds Comic Con!
This year promises to be the biggest and best yet, it has been suggested that the event is held over two days there will be exhibitions, workshops and even a special evening with a certain comic book superstar who we are fortunate enough has recently moved to our area and has graciously agreed to help and support course there will be the usual comic book dealers celebrities and artists of the course the fantastic cosplayers who ring fun enjoyment and enthusiasm no matter what level of the portrayals costumes.
As this event gets new funding if you would like to get involved with ideas, being a volunteer or even like to sponsor part of the show then please get in contact we will also be running competitions that will be sponsored by local businesses and specialised comic organisations.

3. Church services
This Sunday 7th January will be the first Church service at its new temporary location f Mary’s School Hall, this is the temporary move of St Marys’ Church Sunday Services at10.00am Sunday Worship from St Marys’ Church to St Mary’s School hall for six Sundays until Sunday 11th February 2024.
This follows discussion at the Parochial Church Council (PCC) meeting in July about the need for winter measures, and the decision in September 2023 to go ahead with the temporary move. The reason this is being done is we all know the church is cold in the winter months, so the temporary move will give some respite in the depths of winter. Of there is parking at the school and of course outside. The PCC also wanted to have an appropriate balance, celebrating Advent and Christmas in church and also returning for Lent.
Unfortunately, the practicalities of preparing and setting up in the school hall means suspending the Sunday 8.30am BCP Holy Communion just for these six weeks. Please be assured the Church remain totally committed to this service, returning Sunday 18th Feb. The Wednesday 9.30 am Holy Communion will continue throughout the six weeks, please do wrap up warm as there’s no heating on! Weddings and Funeral services will continue to be held in Church, with families paying for heating required. The bell ringers will suspend ringing on Sunday mornings for the six weeks. They will continue to ring on other occasions, and to practice on Friday evening. The plan is to continue to have tea and coffee after the service.
4. Tetbury Film Society
On January 10 , Tetbury Film Society will be showing Confetti (Cert U) this heartfelt moving drama inspired by director Ann Hu’s own experience asks the question how far would a mother go to reverse the fate her child?
Confetti tells a story that begins in China but then moves to America and it is the tale of a mother, Lan Chen (Zhu Zhu), who faces difficult choices when she discovers that her nine-year-old daughter, Mei Mei (Harmonie He), is dyslexic.
Thomas (George Christopher), an American teacher working in China, is the one who identifies the child’s condition, but dyslexia is not officially recognised in that country. Finding no schooling of a kind that would help available there, Lan takes a bold decision.
She decides to travel to New York with her child in order to find a specialist school for her and she does this even though she does not speak English and despite it not being possible for her husband (Li Yanan) to accompany her. She can, however, on arrival make contact with a fellow Chinese known to her, Shen Juan (Yi Liu), and, importantly, Thomas has put her in touch with a helpful friend of his, the writer Helen McCLellan (Amy Irving).
Thank you Ann Hu for sharing your moving story and demonstrating the important message that diversity is strength. The film stars Amy Irving and Helen Slater alongside popular Chinese actress Zhu Zhu and rising young star Harmonie He. As usual, doors at the Dolphins Hall open at 7pm for a 7:30pm screening. Everyone is welcome.

5. Tetbury Town Council open budget public consultation
Tetbury Town Council will be having an open budget public consultation meeting for members of the public to question the budget and for the Council to justify their figures, this will take place in January 11 2023 at 6:00pm situated at the accessible Good Shed Art Centre.
All members of the public are welcome to give the council the views on the proposed precept or any part of the Budget, in the consultation meeting.
6. Comments will be considered
Comments from the consultation will be considered by the council when it makes its decisions on the budget at the meeting of full Council to be held on the 30th of January 2023.
This will be an ideal opportunity for the public to question the councils spending. And of course giving anyone the influence and make their voice heard for the future of the precept figures, which of course will affect the next years council tax.
7. Beatles for Sale
On 19 January Tetbury Good Shed are delighted to present The Beatles for Sale.
