THE oldest pub in Malmesbury has recently been taken over and the new owners want to thank the community for their unwavering support.

The new landlords of The Three Cups on the Triangle in Malmesbury Janinka Diverio and Gary Walsh have transformed the historic pub into a community hub which hosts a variety of pop-up kitchens, live music and events.

Ever since the pub reopened on Monday, November 20 people have flooded through its doors to look around, enjoy a drink and enquire about the food.

The pair also run Malmesbury Animal Sanctuary and don't eat meat or fish so decided to invite an array of talented chefs such as Seojin Kim to take the reigns on Malmesbury's first meat free establishment.

Janinka used to live near the pub and has always admired its history and heritage, so when she heard there was a search for new tenants she grasped the opportunity with both hands.

She said they are both currently learning the ropes of running a pub but are happy to see their vision come to life.

Janinka said: "We are really proud to be the current custodians of the oldest pub in Malmesbury and want to turn it into a bustling space with lots going on.

"I used to live close to The Three Cups and when I saw it was looking for tenants I knew I had to take it on.

"I have a lot of life skills, business acumen, a creative streak and a restaurant and events background so I knew I could turn this pub around into what people like me want.

"The pub is now for the many not the few.

"It’s cosy, fresh, clean, contemporary but also quirky and diverse.

"It’s been filled with many personal possessions and paintings which mean a lot to me and so it’s become a much loved environment.

"Our three key words are comfort, connection and culture and we strive for that in everything we do whether that be the food culture through the wonderful diverse kitchens that our guest chefs run or through our events.

"The last few weeks have been very busy and interesting.

"Seeing how people react to our offerings has been so uplifting and heartwarming.

"It’s like Malmesbury has collectively let out a huge sigh of relief that this corner of Westport has been restored to something of its original nature.

"People are responding really well to our events and seem excited for new things in the future.

"Our vision for the pub's future is to stay afloat, to keep on pushing boundaries and to stay interesting.

"Without change there are no butterflies and we hope to be a welcome change and to complement Malmesbury’s current pub offerings."
