Plans have been submitted for almost 50 new homes and a cemetery to the south of a Wiltshire town.

The new estate is planned on agricultural land south of The Forty, in Cricklade, according to an outline planning application submitted to Wiltshire Council.

The application, which proposes 49 new homes on 3.31 hectares, would also see 0.81 hectares of agricultural land to the north of Chelworth Road for a cemetery.

According to the application, the cemetery land could provide space for up to 900 burial plots.

It also stated that the new homes would help to meet local need.

According to the proposal, the applicant, Hannick Homes and Developments Ltd, has been engaging with Cricklade Town Council regarding the site since 2015.

A public community consultation event was held in July 2023 and was attended by around 150 people.

The applicant commissioned a study that would estimate the impact on traffic in the area.

The study found that the development would generate 30 two-way vehicle trips in the morning rush hour and 32 two-way vehicle trips in the evening rush hour.

The application concluded: “In summary, the proposed sites would meet an identified housing need in Cricklade together with a need for new cemetery land through the delivery of landscape led schemes with associated highway improvement works.”

Wiltshire Council has until Tuesday, March 12, 2024 to make a decision.
