MOTORISTS have been advised to plan their journeys ahead of a series of road closures near the Air Balloon roundabout.

National Highways has announced various overnight and weekend closures that will take place in January as the A417 Missing Link scheme progresses.

A small section of the A436 and the top of Leckhampton Hill will be closed from 9pm on Friday, January 19 until 5am on Monday, January 22 to allow highway teams to create a new site entrance.

All traffic will be diverted via the A40, A46, A453 and A436.

Access for emergency services will be maintained throughout the closure and Crickley Hill Country Park and National Star College will be open for business as usual.

In addition, from Monday, January 8 National Highways will continue to work on the A417 overnight in both directions between the Air Balloon roundabout and A416 Brockworth junction to widen a section of carriageway.

The following closures will be in place during weeknights only, between 9pm and 6am:

•    Monday, January 8 until Friday, January 12
•    Monday, January 15 until Friday, January 19
•    Monday, January 22 until Friday, January 26
•    Monday, January 29 until Friday, February 2

An approved diversion route will be in place via the A46, A40, A435 and A436.

Celine Acard, National Highways’ senior project manager for the A417 Missing Link, said: “We need these closures to progress important work and help keep traffic moving and congestion to a minimum during this vital project.

“We acknowledge these closures will have an effect on people’s journeys, and we are advising people to plan ahead, allow extra time and we thank people in advance for their patience.

“We’ve communicated the forthcoming closures and changes to local communities and businesses and once that work is completed, we will be moving to the next stage which will see us start the build of the new offline section of the A417.”
