Nowadays most towns seem to have a Christmas market and a local celebrity to turn on the lights.
When I was a lad, things were much simpler with Carols round the tree in the Market place, Ciren band playing tear jerking tunes in the frosty air and maybe a few hot chestnuts to warm your hands on the walk home.
