A man has been remanded in custody for allegedly sending threatening and abusive messages about Israel and Gaza to a Conservative MP.
Feras Al-Jayoosi, 36, from Swindon, Wiltshire, was arrested by counter-terrorism officers on Thursday on suspicion of harassment.
He was later charged with stalking MP Justin Tomlinson - who represents the North Swindon constituency - by sending multiple abusive and threatening emails which caused fear and concern.
Swindon Magistrates’ Court heard yesterday, Saturday, November 26 the alleged emails were about the situation in Israel and Gaza.
Keith Ballinger, prosecuting, alleged that Al-Jayoosi “sent emails and made threats to the Member of Parliament over the issues in Israel and Gaza”.
He said the communication caused Mr Tomlinson “serious concern”.
Legal advisor Sangit Purewal advised the bench that due to the nature of the case, only the Chief Magistrate can deal with it.
Al-Jayoosi, who spoke to confirm his name, date of birth and address, was denied bail and remanded in custody ahead of a hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
He is also charged with criminal damage over an unrelated matter.
