COTSWOLD District Councillor Clare Muir has resigned for personal reasons triggering a by-election.

A former group captain in the RAF and the authority’s Armed Forces champion, Cllr Muir represented Lechlade, Kempsford and Fairford South ward and was only first elected in the elections last May.

Council leader Joe Harris (LD, St Michael’s) thanked Cllr Muir for her service over the past few months and said she has been instrumental in standing up for the military.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to Clare for her service over the past few months.

“She’s been a superb ward councillor and in her short time at the council she’s been instrumental in standing up for members of our armed forces.

“In a few weeks we’ll be considering a report which will look at how the council can better support veterans and Clare was instrumental in bringing it about.

“I know that this is a decision which she hasn’t taken lightly, Clare has had an unforeseen change in personal circumstance and it’s the right decision for her.

“I know she’ll remain an active member of our community and I look forward to working with her in future.”

A by-election will be held on December 14 to fill the vacancy.
