A MAN has been banned from driving for more than three years after crashing his car while drink-driving on the M4 near Royal Wootton Bassett.

Aaron Watkins, aged 31, of Pellau Road, Port Talbot, crashed a Mazda 3, which then rolled onto its side, on the M4 eastbound near junction 16 for Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday, August 13.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

He escaped serious injury but was subsequently charged with drink driving after blowing over the legal limit, which is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Watkins pleaded guilty to drink-driving at Swindon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, August 30 and has been disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for three-and-a-half years.

The driving ban could be reduced by 320 days if he completes a drink driving course by February 13, 2026.

He was also fined £100, must pay a victim surcharge of £40 plus £85 in costs - a total of £225.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Drink driving is one of the fatal five offences, all of which increase the risk of you being involved in a serious or fatal collision.

"For the past month, we have been running a Road Safety Campaign focusing on enforcement and raising awareness of the fatal five offences: speeding, drink and drug driving, using a phone while driving, not wearing a seatbelt, and careless or dangerous driving.

"If you suspect somebody of drink driving, please call 101 or 999 in an emergency and give as much information as possible including a description of the driver, vehicle and direction of travel."
