PLANS have been submitted to turn a popular car wash in Cirencester into an electric vehicle charging zone.

The Motor Fuel Group want to demolish the existing drive-in car wash and jet wash at New Quarry Service Station in Chesterton Lane, Cirencester and replace it with four electric vehicle charging points and two jet wash bays.

This company is the largest independent operator of petrol stations in the UK and has more than 900 sites.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

Motor Fuel bosses are looking to roll-out an extensive supply of electric vehicle charging facilities at existing and new service stations across the UK.

In the planning application it says that the company "aspires to provide access to convenient and affordable charging, regardless of where the driver lives".

They have proposed a modern design for the Cirencester site which will encompass measures such as a drop kerb to ensure ease of access for all electric vehicle owners.

The company has also applied for permission to create a canopy and substation for the electric charging point.

Drawings by MBH design studio ltd propose that the canopy will be made from powder coated aluminium cladding panels, steel frame columns and rafters, a glass support beam and a glass roof.

LED down lights have also been incorporated into the design so the area stays well lit during the night.

The drawings of the proposed layout also includes two new jet wash bays so that customers still have somewhere to clean their cars.

In the concluding statement of the cover letter the application stated: "These EV charging proposals are considered to positively respond to the local and national planning policy context and the wider UK aspiration to promptly improve the EV charging network".
