A PRIMARY school near Cirencester has been praised by Ofsted for its "inclusive and caring ethos".

Ashton Keynes Primary School continues to be rated Good after an Ofsted inspection on January 25 and 26.

Overall the school received glowing praise and the inspector described it as a "welcoming and inclusive school" where children are encouraged to "reach for the stars".

Behaviour and personal development were rated as Outstanding and the other categories received a Good rating.

The report commended the school's wide-ranging leadership opportunities such as the worship council as well as its rich array of trips, clubs, music lessons and outdoor learning.

Results from a survey showed that parents were "unreservedly positive" about the education their children received.

Many parents said the school encouraged children to "shine as individuals" and instilled "a love of learning".

The report also praised the school's approach to special needs and disabilities.

It stated: "Leaders place no ceiling on pupils’ learning, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

"Pupils benefit from an inclusive and caring ethos.

"Staff identify the needs of pupils with SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities) early and accurately."

Safeguarding in the primary school was rated as effective.

However, the inspector did say that in a few subjects the curriculum isn't clear what content they want pupils to know and revisit.

Consequently, they felt that some pupils did not gain a sufficient depth of understanding in some subjects.

The report suggested that leaders must ensure that components of essential knowledge should be identified in all subjects so pupils knowledge can be more thoroughly tested.

Headteacher Mrs Saville said: "Our school has now achieved two areas of outstanding.

"It is a testament to the daily hard work of the wonderfully committed staff team, supportive governors and parents and our truly brilliant pupils.

"I feel incredibly proud to be headteacher of this wonderful school and it is fabulous to receive a report which acknowledges how well our school is doing.

"The report really captures what a thriving and happy school this is, we are feeling very proud."

Chair of governors Michele Collier-Bromelow said: "I am so proud of Mrs Saville and the whole of Ashton Keynes primary school team.

"Our Ofsted report is amazing and shows that we really do embrace shining bright and reaching for the stars!"

To celebrate this success producer Josh Record and rapper Adapt have worked with the school to produce a song called Shine Bright which will be released on Spotify and shared at the school's Shine Music Festival in July.
