ONE of Cirencester's oldest shops will be moving to a new location next week.

G.H.Knights has been described by many as a "treasure trove" as it is filled to the brim with stunning stationery such as colourful filing boxes, beautiful books and a range of luxury pens.

The Silver Street stationery store has been open for over 48 years and has become an important part of the town's fabric.

It will be moving to a bigger space in 15A Castle Street, nestled between Cancer Research UK and The Black Horse pub.

Owner Julie Godley stumbled across the stationery shop by accident in 2018 shortly after moving to the area from South Africa.

The third owner was retiring and Julie decided to take it over to continue it's legacy.

Julie described the shop as one of a "dying-breed" which has had to evolve over time.

When she first took over the space it was a classic old office stationery shop but she had a vision of turning into a beautiful bountiful space.

Julie said: "Many have described the shop as an Aladdin's cave or a treasure trove.

"I have filled the shop with lots of beautiful colourful things.

"I know half of my customers by name and love to interact with the community.

"G.H.Knights has always been a happy place filled with music, whether it's French jazz or classical rock.

The South African explained the reasons behind the move.

She said: "When I heard that the Castle Street space was up for sale I had to grab the opportunity with both hands.

"Moving across the road means I have a bigger space to fill with even more beautiful things.

"However, I don't want to lose the small shop feel but the new space means I can offer more brands and increase the collection of pens and books.

"Silver Street is filled with some great shops but unfortunately it doesn't get much of the traffic from the market or Cricklade Street.

"This new location is the next step in G.H.Knight's journey and being in the centre of activity on Castle Street will hopefully attract more customers.

"It's very chaotic at the moment and we are running out of time to move everything, so it's going to be a rush to get everything up and running by next week."

The new Castle Street shop is set to open in the upcoming week.
