LECHLADE has been named one of the UK's best market towns to visit this spring.

Holiday rental marketplace HomeToGo awarded Lechlade sixth place in their annual 'Top 15 market towns in the UK to visit this spring' leader board.

This list aims to provide spend-savvy travellers with plenty of fresh inspiration for scenic places to stay ahead of the bank holiday season.

The ranking pinpoints locations that are both picturesque and purse-friendly, featuring only market towns situated within a one-hour walk of a National Park, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Heritage Coast.

It also only features towns which offer accommodation prices lower than the UK median, £160.17 per night, in spring 2023 .

Destinations were further ranked according to:

•    Affordability - looking at the exact median nightly price per person for holiday accommodation in the area, as well as the number of free things to do.

•    Scenic Setting - taking into account each town’s precise proximity to a National Park, Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or Heritage Coast.

•    Climate - factoring in average hours of sunshine and average maximum temperatures during spring for each destination.

Lechlade scored 8.58 on price, 8.61 on sunshine, 9.61 on warmth, 6.61 on position and 6.54 on things to do - achieving an overall score of 39.95 out of a possible 50 points.

Another Gloucestershire town, Coleford, was awarded first place scoring 42.51.

Lechlade lies on the River Thames which means many visitors can enjoy a boat trip in the sunshine, take a stroll across the pretty Halfpenny Bridge or explore the Thames Path National Trail from the town.

The Church of St Lawrence, which dominates the market square, has beautiful stained glass windows and a landmark spire.

Lechlade is also know for its thriving town centre offering a good range of shops, including many antique-dealers and regular markets.

It has a great selection of restaurants and cafes such as the The Riverside, Lynwood & Co Lechlade and The Sourdough Revolution.
