LIVE MUSIC, multiple markets and a huge luncheon are just a few events happening in Cirencester to celebrate King Charles III’s coronation this May.

The main event will be a 'Big Lunch' in Abbey Grounds, Cirencester where everyone is invited to bring a picnic to celebrate the historic occasion together on Sunday, May 7.

This is part of the Eden Project’s Big Lunch initiative which aims to create friendships, reduce loneliness and boost community spirit.

There will be also an artisan market, live music and food stalls between 12pm and 6pm.

Local charities and community groups will be present to signpost their services and talk about the volunteering opportunities in the area.

Willow sculptor and outdoor educator Chris Oakey, of Oakey Bear Sculptures, will be running willow weaving workshops at six schools in Cirencester earlier on in the week.

These shelters will be on display at the Big Lunch and then will be installed in three play areas across the town as a lasting memory of the coronation celebrations.

Chris will also be running an activity at the Big Lunch that everyone can join in with.

Cllr Gary Selwyn, lead member for community services, said: “We are delighted to be able to  help our community participate in the Big Lunch and celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. It's going to be a really memorable day!”

Becky Coles, community services manager, said: “The Coronation Big Lunch will be a wonderful way of bringing everyone together to celebrate this historic event in our beautiful Abbey Grounds.

"It’s free and everyone’s welcome, we hope that people will bring a blanket and picnic and join in the fun.”

A variety of markets will be taking place in the Market Place, Cirencester to join the coronation celebrations such as two Charter Markets on Friday, May 5 and Monday, May 8.

An Arts and Crafts Market will take place on Saturday, May 6.

The coronation service will be screened at the Parish Church on Saturday, May 6.

Recyclable bunting made from plastic bottles will be draped across the town centre in April in anticipation for the coronation until August.
