THE sudden death of a much-loved and talented teenage rugby player left a community in shock.

Minchinhampton RFC has united in sorrow at the loss of Euan Warner, who tragically died in his sleep aged just 18 earlier this month.

Described as 'fearless, brave and strong', Euan had played for the club since the age of seven and was known for being hugely popular, not just for his talent but for his fun and energy.

Former Thomas Keble School student Euan, who died on February 10, is sorely missed by his parents, Rachael and Paddy McDonnell-Poole, and sisters Freya and Olivia.

His number 15 shirt was rested by the club as a sign of respect and players at matches home and away have observed a minute's silence in remembrance.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

Head coach Will Garrard said: "We loved him like he was one of our own.

"He made us laugh and cry in equal measure, he was a maddening mix of energy, fun, bravery, strength, irreverence, loyalty, kindness, and mischief.

"Teammates, parents, coaches, friends and family have lost a bright star.

"We shall miss him so much."

Former coach John Errington said: "If an opponent needed to be marked tightly, it was Euan every time.

"He was the centre of fun off and on the pitch."

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

Teammate Matty said: "On Sunday mornings, when we saw Euan's cheeky smile as he jogged onto the pitch we always knew we had a good chance of winning."

His former PE teacher, Andy Blaylock from Thomas Keble, said Euan, who went on to attend Hartpury College, was the best cover tackler he had seen in his career and expected to see him play professionally.

Euan's talents were spotted by Gloucester Academy, leading to training at St Peter's School and Hartpury College with boys from across the county and at district level.

Ex-England rugby international Mike Tindall, who now plays for Minchinhampton RFC, re-tweeted the club's 'horrendous' news that 'one of ours has gone'.

Following Euan's funeral and a private burial on Friday (February 24), there will be a celebration of Euan’s life at 2.30pm at the Old Lodge, Minchinhampton Common.
