A NEW children’s book has been published by two Malmesbury mums to help parents talk about mental health and wellbeing.

Rigby Raccoon: King of the Macaroon has been written by Ella Brock Smith and illustrated by Gemma Canning and is aimed at children aged three to eight-years-old.

During the pandemic Ella wrote the first draft of Rigby, with the aim of including all the things her children liked in a book.

As the story came to life, the themes of wellbeing, loneliness and how important talking is also emerged – such huge problems during the height of the pandemic.

The pair became friends when they became first-time mums at the same time.

“I’m so excited to finally have a printed copy of the book,” Ella said.

“Gemma has brought the story to life so beautifully with her amazing illustrations.

“I hope parents and children can enjoy reading Rigby’s heart-warming story together and that this loveable raccoon can help to open conversations about wellbeing.”

Rigby Raccoon is a rhyming story, for parents to read together with their children.

The book has been self-published through a local children’s publisher, Peahen Publishing.

You can buy the book at www.ellabrocksmith.co.uk and at Waterstones and Amazon.

The book will also be available to buy at the Malmesbury Late Night shopping evening on December 2.
