TRIBUTES are pouring in across Facebook for much-loved Alfie the donkey.

He was a familiar sight for locals on Minchinhampton Common and was regularly spotted with his equine friends.

A post on the Kill Your Speed, Not Us Facebook page said: “It is with great sadness, we have to announce that Alfie has passed away peacefully on the common.”

In recent years he had been hit by two cars once in July 2019 by a drink-driver and again by a different motorist in December 2020.

“So very sad. I think we all loved Alfie. He made the common all the better.”

People have been suggesting ways of remembering Alfie like raising money for a memorial or blaque and donating to Nailsworth Donkey Sanctuary.

Over the years he had made name quite a name for himself posing for numerous selfies with well-wishers and he was also on the cover of Cotswold Life magazine in 2021.
