A WELL-WISHER has set up a fundraising page after a mobility scooter was stolen and vandalised in Malmesbury.

Images were shared on social media on Wednesday by Lisa Clifford Tuck of the scooter in pieces along a bridle path behind the Red Bull Inn near Brokenborough and Shipton Moyne.

Lisa, who lives on Sherston Road, said she goes past the footpath most mornings for work and found the remnants of the scooter at around 8am.

She said: “I just thought oh god here we go again more theft and more damage as it seems to be a regular occurrence in Malmesbury.

“It just makes me feel angry.”

According to reports on social media the scooter was stolen at around 4am and was seen racing down Newnton Grove.

Lisa Harwood has confirmed it was her mother’s mobility scooter and said that the family is ‘heartbroken’ - especially since this is the family’s third scooter to be stolen.

She said: “My dad's funeral is tomorrow. He was heartbroken two months ago about having his scooter stolen.

“Last night my mum's new one was stolen.

“So she now has the funeral and this to cope with.

“When will something be done about these people?

“The implications of these thefts go beyond what you could imagine.”

After seeing the Facebook posts Emma Moore, 33, who lives in Corston, started a GoFundMe page to help the victim’s family.

Although she has never met Lisa she said she wants to help and take the financial worry away from the family.

She said: “Malmesbury has experienced a lot of issues with vandalism over this past year or two.

“When I saw Lisa's post on Facebook it really struck a chord with me and I wanted to help.

“I saw many others commenting, and thought if we all chipped in together we could really help this family and take this worry away from Lisa's mum.

“I think Malmesbury has a great community, and like myself - when reading Lisa's mum's story we all felt we wanted to somehow help her, especially at this very difficult time.

“I don't know the family at all, and had my first communication with Lisa on Wednesday after offering to set up the go fund me to help them after reading their story.”

Wiltshire Police was approached for a comment.
