A Malmesbury fossil collector who has obtained thousands of specimens from the local area is encouraging others to get involved in the hobby.

Theo May, 24, has been fascinated by fossils from a young age and wants to share his passion with others.

He also wants to disabuse people of the notion that they need to head to Lyme Regis to go hunting for fossils.

"I have collected all around the Cotswold hills," said Theo. "I have established a beautiful collection.

"It comes from my childhood, it's something I just adore.

"I have got way more than I need, I have collected thousands of specimens.

"They are hiding in plain sight. People don't realise how common they are.

"What I really want to do now is give them away.

Theo has been going on digs since he was a child and now dreams of being able to host one of his own.

"When I would go on digs as a child I loved it, I'd love to do it again.

"When I was a teenager all I wanted to do was go out with a sledgehammer. I'm now in the stage where I want to show other people the joy fossil collecting has to offer.

"It's still as magical as it always has been. It's an amazing thing to do.

"The dream is I can have a digger and show people what it's like to open a field.

"If I could get some sponsorship there's no reason it couldn't happen.

"Eventually my dream is to have mine and my friends' fossils on public display for all to enjoy."

Theo is also a talented musician and is currently in the process of recording his debut album.

Another reason he wants to host a dig is to capture footage for a music video to go with his fossil-related song Under the Earth.

Anyone able to facilitate the dig is encouraged to email Theo at timothee.ewavinukcollections@gmail.com
