GEORGE Rigg's 90th minute winner denied Evesham United a deserved point at last season's runners-up Frome Town on the opening day of the Southern League Division South.
The Robins had battled the 33 degree heat admirably, keeping their hosts out with a brave defensive performance.
But Rigg nodded Ben Starr's cross past Joshua Nicol as the game entered stoppage time to spark jubilant scenes amongst the 359 in attendance at Badgers Hill.
The Evesham players had spent the majority of the clash on the back foot digging their heels in and despite the result, boss Mike Ford was pleased with his side's defensive display.
"Frome started brightly but we got to grips with them and ended the half the better team," he said.
"We looked very leggy second-half. We had to work very hard on a hot day but the lads couldn't have done more than what they.
"Last week we were very passive, we lacked that get-up and go.
"We changed a couple of things in training and today, for all Frome's pressure, our keeper has made one amazing save and then he hasn't really been called upon.
"We defended brilliantly all day but then we get done in the last moments but a huge improvement on last weekend.
"We have come to a really tough place and put on a really good display. There are lots of positives but also things we still need to work on."
