The top deck a Boeing 747 is making its final journey from Kemble this morning.
Part of British Airways’ G-BYGA aircraft, it is travelling from Cotswold Airport up to City Airport in Salford, where it is set to become a visitor centre, flight simulator and tourist attraction called The Deck.
From 9.30am Roads Policing staff will be escorting the aircraft fuselage, which is 5.8m wide.
This will travel from Kemble Airfield onto the A429, A419, A417 and then joining the M5 at 11a northbound.
The route will continue north towards Worcestershire.
This is expected to cause traffic delays and police have advised people to use alternative routes where possible.
This is not the first 747 to be repurposed. In 2020 Cotswold Airport bought the BA Negus and remodelled it into an events space.
