A Malvern pub will be closed for some time as clean up work gets underway following a devastating fire.

Staff and guests at The Bluebell Inn managed to escape the pub unscathed as a fire took hold on Tuesday evening (June 21).

Dozens of firefighters battled the blaze, which started on the ground floor and spread to the roof space.

In a Facebook post by The Bluebell’s owners, staff were praised for not only evacuating guests but for their “swift actions”, which are credited with having saved a listed part of the building.

Staff told the Worcester News they appreciated all the messages of support from the community but are now politely asking people to stay away from the pub as they tackle the daunting task of cleaning up and assessing the damage.

“The damage is pretty bad but it’s confined to the new part of the building that’s about 15 years old,” they said.

“The listed parts were untouched. We’re grateful that this is what we have to worry about because everyone got out safely.”

The Bluebell, in Guarlford Road, remains closed “until further notice”, with the pub’s management saying building work and refurbishment of the damage will begin “very swiftly”.
