THERE were noisy picket lines and empty train stations as Worcestershire's rail staff joined in with the nationwide strike.
The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers held its first planned strike with more set to take place this week.
Union members will be striking again on Thursday, June 23 and Saturday, June 25.
Worcester Foregate Street has closed its doors to the public this morning, with signage around the station's windows alerting would-be passengers to the strike closure.

Outside Worcester Shrub Hill, a picket line was formed by strikers, brandishing flags and signs.
As drivers passed the group, many could be heard sounding their horns in support of the strike.
A picture was taken of a poster on display at Worcester Foregate Street over the weekend, which suggested that there will be no trains from the station until Saturday, June 25.
A taxi driver parked outside of Worcester Foregate Street said his business was also affected by the lack of trains.
He said: "Lots of trade comes from passengers getting off the trains so it may be quieter than usual."
Great Western Railway's website also said there are no scheduled departures or arrivals for Great Malvern or Malvern Link train stations today.
It is the same situation at Evesham, Pershore and Ledbury.
GWR said none of its services between Hereford and Oxford, which includes stations in Worcestershire and the Cotswolds, will be running this week.
Gary Hale, Evesham Stationmaster, provided an update on the situation in Evesham.

He said: "I've been here at the station since 5am and I've seen a handful of people, mainly young'uns who don't watch the news."
However train services are expected to be impacted on the days without planned strike action as well due to knock-on effects, with around 60 per cent of normal services running.
"Tomorrow onwards, possibly some trains but no guarantees," added Mr Hale.
"GWR is advising people not to travel between now and Sunday inclusive."
