People in Cirencester were given demonstrations of how they can improve their health during a special event in the Market Place on Tuesday.

'The NHS and Beyond, the Power of Self Care' was organised by the Patients Participation Groups (PPG) of Cirencester as part of the town's health and wellbeing week.

Their aim was to explain ways people can improve their health and wellbeing in order to reduce the strain on GP surgeries.

There were more than 30 organisations represented including social prescribers, the Yellow Bus project, the Independence Trust, Healthy Lifestyles, drug and alcohol support, Heartwize (with defibrillator training), Falls Assessment, and diabetes prevention and treatment.

Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard:

"The stall on physio treatment was very popular, giving a chance to lie down!" said Douglas Butler from The Phoenix Group PPG

"One of the most telling stalls highlighted the acute need for foster parents.

"The event was very well attended and of course many are hoping for a repeat next year."
