AN upcoming review of road safety in Gloucestershire has been brought into sharp focus following a horror weekend on the county's roads.
Two people lost their lives in crashes in the county over the weekend, while a third was killed on the main road between Cirencester and Swindon - just over the border in Wiltshire.
On Saturday evening a motorcyclist in his 50s was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a BMW on Moreton-in-Marsh High Street.
Yasen Yanev, aged 34 and of Tanhouse Avenue, Birmingham has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and driving over the alcohol limit.

On Sunday a man in his 40s died in a crash on the A419 southbound near Blunsdon.
The driver of a van, a 20-year-old man from Kidderminster, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and suspicion of drug driving.

In the early hours of Monday morning, a 41-year-old pedestrian was killed in Westbury-on-Severn after they were hit by a Ford Transit van on the A48.
Cllr Paul Hodgkinson has called on Gloucestershire County Council to review the causes of recent crashes.
“These accidents are incredibly sad. The impact on the families and friends of those who passed away will be huge and my condolences go out to them.”
“We have had a series of deaths on our roads this year in the Cotswolds and a number of serious accidents.
"What is needed is a definite and speedy review of the local A roads by the county council and recommendations as to what changes can be realistically made to promote safety.
"There may be some common themes in the accidents which have occurred like speed, nature of the road, signage, driver behaviour etc. which the council and the police could then focus on.”
Following a motion put forward by Cllr Hodgkinson last month, councillors agreed to ask officers to provide the Environment Scrutiny and Fire and Rescue Scrutiny committees with a thorough briefing on recent crashes and their causations. They also committed to a thorough consultation on their new Road Safety Policy.
Meanwhile, a woman remains in hospital following a crash on the A40 in Northleach at the end of May.
A man, woman and child were taken to hospital following a crash between their blue Peugeot and a silver BMW. The woman remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition while the others have since been discharged.
Police have made a renewed appeal for witnesses and would like to speak to the driver of a light-coloured transit-style van who may have seen what happened.
Police would also like to hear from anyone who travelled along the route and has dashcam footage, particularly between the Northleach and Burford roundabouts.
