FARMOR'S School pupil Jasmin Pritchett has been elected to the youth parliament to represent her peers around the cotswold and Stroud district.

The 12-year-old was voted to represent the district as deputy YMP to 15-year-old Gemma Gingell who attends Rednock School in Stroud.

The UK Youth Parliament aims to give young people of the UK, between the age of 11 and 18 a voice.

As part of their time in office they will be expected to take the views of their contemporaries in the region to local and even national Government.

This year, 8588 votes were cast for 20 candidates for the three Member of Youth Parliament (MYP) seats and three Deputy MYPs across the county.

Constituencies include the Cotswolds and Stroud, Tewkesbury and Cheltenham and Gloucester and the Forest.

The winners were announced by Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood and Geoffrey Clifton-Brown. The Cotswold MP also presented the retiring MYPs with their Service Section Duke of Edinburgh's Award and their Gloucestershire Award Plus.
