A police officer was hit over the head with a bottle at Swindon train station when a fight broke out between rival football fans from Wales.

The disorder took place on April 9 when Newport County travelled to Swindon Town for a League Two fixture.

A video circulating on social media appears to show Newport fans on the platform chanting at Cardiff City supporters on a train bound for London Paddington at 11.40am.

Cardiff were playing Reading on the same day.

From the video, a man standing on the platform and someone on the train can be seen jabbing each other before other fans begin to pile in and bottles are thrown at the train.

It is at this point that six officers intervened to separate the two sides.

A police spokesman said: "Thankfully the officer wasn't seriously injured.
