The Stroud News and Journal, Gazette Series and the Wilts and Glos Standard has been inundated by readers concerned over access to cash machines in their communities.

Here is a selection of some of the letters:

Today I'm writing to you to tell you that I’m concerned about my ability to access cash in my local community.

The nearest cashpoint is 5 miles away, we only have a post office in our village for 2 hours on a Thursday. I am constantly trying to get cash for when I buy my eggs in the village, life is bad enough please stop it from getting worse.

Kind regards,

Elaine Clough

Today I'm writing to you to tell you that I’m concerned about my ability to access cash in my local community.

There are increasingly worrying signs that our access to cash is going to become ever more restricted. For many people, including me, this poses problems already : use of cards, and travel to one of the diminishing number of ATM's , is not always easy. If you are not tech-savvy, using a card can make you vulnerable, and if you are out in the country, a visit to a cash point can be difficult.

Keeping a cash economy for those who rely on it is important ; we need to keep access to cash points free, and readily available.

Yours ,

Jenny Stringer.

Older people with problems adapting to an on line world need to be able to access cash as well as banking services provided by a human being.

We do not have children or young neighbours to ask to help with rather personal arrangements.

Our nearest bank was in Burford but it has closed, we now rely on the limited services of the post office, the nearest in Northleach seems to have erratic opening times and as one has to drive there to find it shut…..

Today I'm writing to you to tell you that I’m concerned about my ability to access cash in my local community.

In the last 6+ years we have lost Nat West bank, TSB branch with ATMs at both places.

The only place to access banking facilities is at the Post Office .These are limited in their ability to help.

To be told the nearest branch is over 15 miles away , for the elderly and infirm this is not an option and makes for serious problems.

Kind regards,

Jane Day

I live in Kempsford and our only access to cash is for two hours at a visiting Post Office once a week in our Village Hall. My husband and I are elderly and he can no longer drive. There is a cash machine in Fairford, our local town, but the Lloyds Bank there closed some time ago. I am worried about our bank in Cirencester closing. Sometimes we need to talk to a person, the telephone support is not good. The bus service for our village is hopelessly infrequent and timings are unhelpful. I am sure other people locally will have similar concerns.

Kind regards,

Dawn Penman
