Police have hit out at an 'arrogant' speeding driver in Malmesbury and warned them about imminent changes to the highway code.

On Wednesday Malmesbury Police's community speed watch enforcement officer and two PCSOs from the Royal Wotton Basset community policing team sadly caught 11 drivers speeding in the Malmesbury area.

In Charlton one driver will be getting a £100 fine and three points on their licence for travelling at 43mph in a 30 mph zone.

Another nine drivers will have to complete a speed awareness course to avoid the same fate.

A post on the Malmesbury Police Facebook page said: "Although the officers were highly visible some drivers ignored their presence and the hazards of the road at the location that included cyclists, dog walkers and horse riders.

"One vehicle even decided to slow down and rev manically as it passed by and proceeded to display arrogance as it sped off. Unfortunately for that driver the speed offence had already been captured on film."

"Drivers are urged to note changes to the Highway Code relating to pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders that are being introduced from January 29.

The new code includes a hierarchy of road users, with those who can do the greatest harm given the most responsibility to reduce the danger they pose to others.

Pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders are therefore at the top, ahead of any motorised vehicles.

All road users are also now being asked to give way to pedestrians crossing or waiting to cross a road that they are turning into.

And cyclists have been given priority over cars in, with drivers urged not to cut across cyclists when turning into or out of a junction or changing direction or lane.
