A Cirencester pub's future has been cast into doubt once more.

St Austell Brewery are not renewing their lease of Harry Hares when it ends in early 2022, forcing current landlord Liz Maw to leave at the end of the year.

A spokesperson for the brewery confirmed their lease on the building ends early next year, but was unable to provide any information on the future of the pub.

Harry Hares has gone through a number of name changes and periods of opening and closing over the years.

Prior to St Austell's involvement, Cotswold Pubs Limited ran into 'financial issues' and closed the pub in August 2019 just three months after it had reopened.

Liz took on the running of the Gosditch Street pub in December 2019, opening the following February following refurbishment.

But a month later the pub closed again as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

"Covid had a massive impact on the business as it did for everyone trying to make a living," said Liz.

"It stopped the plans I had in place to build Harry Hares and get it back on the pub circuit."

But since reopening the pub has hosted charity and live music events, and helped people celebrate weddings, christenings and birthdays.

"It has been a great experience and I have enjoyed every second," said Liz.

"Covid was a challenge but we survived it. I really appreciate and thank everyone from the bottom of my heart for all their support.

"Big thanks to my family and friends, my son Calum and daughter Jade, Rachel, my 2 two beautiful little helpers Tori and Lacey, and Jack my right hand man."

Liz has approached the landlord of the building directly but is unable to afford the rent herself. She now hopes to take on another pub in the area.
