CALLS are being made for more warning signs after a deer was struck on a busy country road.

In the latest incident, resident Becca Abingdon came across a deer which had been struck on the A433, between Cirencester and Tetbury on Sunday night.

Becca pulled over and called the police after seeing the injured animal at the roadside.

"This poor little guy sadly died on Sunday night after being hit on the Tetbury road from Cirencester," she said.

"I pulled over after seeing him there and called the police who brought out a team who found he had a broken back and had to release him to heaven."

"Deers are in rutting season and with nights starting earlier it’s harder to see them on the roads.

"It’s tragic to see such a beautiful life go like this, so please let this be a reminder to everyone to slow down and watch out for these stunning animals."

Becca said that warning drivers of deer in the area could help slow them down, and she has raised the issued Gloucestershire County Council highways team.

Richard Gray, local highways manager at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “We’re saddened to hear about the death of a deer on Sunday night.

"Ensuring Gloucestershire roads are safe is a priority, and we have signs warning drivers to be alert for wild animals on many roads around the county.

"We will raise the concern of wild deer on this section of the A433 with our road safety team.”
