A leading employer in the Cotswold hospitality industry has said more needs to be done to address the shortage of workers.

One in six hospitality jobs remain unfilled across the UK and this figure is backed up by many Cotswold businesses narrowing down their opening hours or closing for longer periods while trying to source employees.

Relish Group run 16 sites across Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, including The Gateway Café and Waterside Kitchen & Bar at The Cotswolds Water Park, The Old Prison in Northleach, Sally Pussey’s Inn at Royal Wootton Bassett and Jack’s Kitchen and Tearooms in Cirencester.

While all sites have remained open, director Rob Goves said: “More needs to be done to encourage people to enter the industry.”

Relish Group are hosting a recruitment evening on Thursday, October 14 at Jack’s Kitchen and Tearooms on Black Jack Street, Cirencester from 5pm-7pm. This will be co-hosted by the Apprenticeship Management Group who look after the Governments KickStart initiative for Relish Group.

“The event is open to anyone and everyone, of all ages, someone who wants to return to the industry or perhaps someone looking for a change in career,” said Philippa Sawyer, Relish co- director.

“We have opportunities in our various kitchens or in front of house roles as well as within our offices. Come and have a chat with our managers and other members of staff and see what we can do for you or what you could do for us.”

John Henry, director of the Apprenticeship Management Group, said: “Statistics say 16% of hospitality jobs are vacant, many not sure how to get into it or what training is available. Kickstart can help the younger community get into work while apprenticeship remains open to all.

"There are many options so do not be afraid to ask us, I am looking forward to the open evening and meeting some of the future of this business.”
