A 19-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested after a mobility scooter was stolen in Malmesbury.

He was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning on suspicion of burglary, being drunk and disorderly, theft and criminal damage.

Malmesbury police posted on Facebook that a scooter was taken from the Newnton Grove area around 4.30am and then ridden to the Co-op in Gloucester Road.

A group of youths are then said to have stolen items from the loading area and damaged other goods.

The 19-year-old was taken into custody and interviewed about the offences.

A group of males ran from the area as police arrived.

Malmesbury police said they have been conducting house to house inquiries and assessing CCTV footage.

Photos shared on the Malmesbury Police Facebook page that have since been deleted showed three youths, one on the mobility scooter, one on a bicycle and a third reaching into a crate of food next to a delivery van.

Another photo showed the mobility scooter left abandoned in the road.

A statement issued by Wiltshire Police said: “We were called to a reports of a burglary in the early hours of Saturday, September 4.

“A 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, drunk and disorderly, theft and criminal damage.

“He’s been released while under investigation.”
