A bear hunt is being held in Thornbury to entertain families and drive people back to the high street.

Teddy bears have been hidden all over the town centre for children to find. All of them have been given names and these must be collected.

The event has been organised by St Mary's Primary School in conjunction with Thornbury Chamber of Commerce and My Thornbury.

Many of the town centre businesses have offered sponsorship or additional support to the event.

The Swan are selling teddy bear picnic boxes and are making a donation from each sale. This must be pre-ordered before 11am on the day.

An entry form and map is available for £3 from Bristol Coffee Company, who are offering a promotional hot chocolate, or online.

Entrants have a chance to win a £100 Thornbury shopping voucher. All money raised will go towards new play equipment for St Mary's.

Carly Rocyn-Jones, co-chair of the school's PTFA, said: "I have been overwhelmed by the support of the local independent businesses.

"It's been a very challenging year but many are fully supporting this event with sponsorship and have even offered additional support.

"What a fantastic community we have here in Thornbury."

The bear hunt is running until August 14.
