Thunderstorms are set to hit the Cotswolds as the district continues to bask in sweltering temperatures.

The Met office predicts thundery showers to break up the heat this weekend in the Cotswolds, after parts of the South East are struck by storms on Tuesday.

The news comes after, in a historic first, the Met Office issued an 'extreme heat' warning across the South West.

Tonight will be dry and warm again with clear skies and patchy fog, but this will clear on Wednesday morning leaving another hot and mainly dry day with plenty of sunshine.

Some fair-weather clouds and the odd, very isolated shower may develop through the afternoon, but temperatures could reach 32C, about aas hot as top European holiday destinations such as Marbella, Mykonos and Tenerife.

Thursday and Friday will be sunny and dry, with temperatures reaching 28C and 26C respectively, but rain, perhaps thundery, could arrive late on Friday and early on Saturday, with thunder expected around 4pm on Sunday.

The heat will clear, leaving temperatures of 22C and 23C on the weekend.
