The Conservative who was barred from becoming Wiltshire's police and crime commissioner because of a previous conviction has a second offence on his record.
Jonathon Seed pulled out of the race for the role in May after news broke that he had a 30-year-old drink driving conviction.
He ended up winning the most votes but, as he could not take on the top job, the election has had to be re-run with another vote due to be held in August.
Now, an ITV News investigation has found Mr Seed had a second conviction on his record which involved failing to stop after an accident. This also would have prevented him from taking on the PCC role because although he was not jailed for either crime, convictions for any imprisonable offence automatically disqualify him.
Mr Seed said he had declared both of these convictions to the party when he applied to be the Conservative candidate for the PCC election but the Tories disputed this claim.
He said he continues to cooperate with the ongoing police investigation into the election.
