Staff and residents at a care home in Braydon were delighted to welcome a special visitor.
Owner Amy Vincent introduced her horse Louis to those living at White Lodge care home, who gave him his favourite treats of carrots and custard creams.
The general manager said: “It is absolutely wonderful to welcome visitors to the home again and this includes therapy animals and their owners who we thank so much for giving up their time to visit care homes.
“Everyone enjoyed Louis visiting, he is welcome back any time!
“Due to our rural location, many of our residents were once farmers or were horse riders so they were delighted to not only meet Louis, but also to reminisce about their own horses.”
White Lodge bosses say animal therapy helps to reduce blood pressure, produce endorphins and provide a feeling of wellbeing along with increasing social interactions.
The care home will soon be welcoming back its Pets As Therapy dog, Archie. He was a regular visitor prior to the lockdowns and is set to return soon.
A spokesperson for White Lodge said: “Our varied life enrichment programme keeps residents active, and provides a daily choice of engaging physical, mental and spiritual activities tailored to residents’ interests and abilities.”
