WILTSHIRE Air Ambulance’s helicopter is back in the skies – after a spell at the mechanics’ this week.

The charity said its Bell helicopter was briefly out of action on Wednesday and Thursday, as it had to undergo its 100 hour service.

A spokesman said: “This has been necessary after such a busy start to 2021, with 239 missions flown via helicopter so far in 2021 despite the lockdown.”

He confirmed the helicopter returned to active flying duty on Friday morning.

In the absence of Wiltshire Air Ambulance, an HM Coastguard helicopter was scrambled to a medical emergency at Mouldon Hill Country Park on Wednesday night after an elderly man got into difficulties in the lake.

The red-and-white coastguard aircraft was used to fly the man, who police said had been in the water for some time, to hospital for treatment.

Fire engines, ambulances and a number of police units could be seen at the park on Wednesday night.
