May is usually a time for merriment and hope for the Summer that lies ahead, writes Robert Heaven.
At one time it was regularly celebrated with dancing and the crowning of a May Queen.
This continues to some extent around the county although Covid has severely restricted activities.
It was once very different picture as today’s show.
The May-Bees pop group played at the Regal Cinema in 1967; a May Queen was crowned at Victoria Road School and the Mayor Mavis Marshal watched the Country dancing in the Market Place in 1987.
