Cirencester's radio station is celebrating its 15th anniversary this month.

Corinium Radio — which broadcasts 24/7 music and talk programming aimed at Cotswold residents — first broadcast on May 5, 2006, on a temporary radio licence.

It has since gone on to become one of the UK's most successful community radio stations, having been shortlisted in the nationwide Community Radio Awards in 2019.

May marks the launch of a "15th anniversary year" for the organisation — which is run entirely by volunteers — with plans in the pipeline for activities over the upcoming months that will celebrate the achievement.

These include the launch of 15 facts about the station, which will aim to give the local community a greater insight into its work.

Commenting on the milestone, Corinium Radio chair Carole Boydell said: "This is a proud achievement for our station and one that testifies to the tireless efforts of its members and supporters to develop it into the service it is today.

"15 years after its launch, Corinium Radio is a flourishing community radio station, with output that can rival that of far larger media outlets.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has been involved with the organisation in some form since its inception, as it is thanks to them that Corinium Radio is in the position it is today."

Recent times have seen the station — which has continued broadcasting during the coronavirus pandemic — launch a brand-new website and review its on-air output to provide a better listening experience.

It has also begun creating its own local news articles, with this process being undertaken by local journalist Tony Coleman.

Corinium Radio is always looking for volunteers to help across different areas of the station, with remote volunteering opportunities also available.
