Fans of intergalactic laser battles know May the 4th (be with you) as Star Wars Day, but do they know which actors from Gloucestershire starred in the franchise and which locations in the county filming took place?

The reference to the popular Star Wars phrase is thought to have started in 1979, when Margaret Thatcher was elected as Prime Minister and the Conservative Party took out an ad in the London Evening News that read: "May the Fourth be with you, Maggie. Congratulations."

The day was officially recognized 40 years later, when on May 2, 2019, California state voted in favor of naming May 4th as "Star Wars Day.”

Celebrating the day will be a little different this year, but at the very least we can celebrate Gloucestershire’s involvement in the saga.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens

Simon Pegg, who was born in Brockworth, had an almost unrecognizable cameo in the movie, playing Unkar Plutt, a junk dealer on the planet Jakku.

Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean was the site of a critical confrontation between Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and hero Rey (Daisy Ridley).
