The best takeaway in Cirencester, Tetbury, Malmesbury and the surrounding areas has been decided.

Over the last month we asked our readers to nominate the top 10 before voting between them to crown the champion.

A range of pubs, restaurants and cafes made the shortlist but the winner was an organic pub and restaurant which opened just nine months ago in North Cerney.

In third place was Asha Indian Kitchen and coming second was Munch (Readymade Catering), both in Cirencester, but the winner of the Wilts and Gloucestershire Best Takeaway 2021 is the Bathurst Arms.

“I’m ecstatic. To have only opened this pub back in July of last year to now have it booming, offering great food, having so many customers come back to eat with us, it’s fantastic, so to win the takeaway competition is just one more feather in the cap right now and it’s nice to have recognition for all our hard work,” said owner Jordan Pelly.

Jordan put their win down to head chef Michal Wlodarcyzk, who has been serving food which is more than 95 per cent organic, as accredited by the Soil Association.

“I’ve got an absolute champion in the kitchen who just cooks the most beautiful food there is.

“We believe that we need to put much back in as we do take out of this world with our food and I think only through small individuals making small changes can anybody hope to fix the crisis that we’ve got right now with modern day intensive agriculture.”

Jordan said he wanted to thank all the people that voted for him for their support.

“Working through these lockdowns was most definitely a challenge there is no doubt about that. We did not know if we would see the other side of that Christmas lockdown but through an amazing community and people around us, and the support that we’ve received, we’re still here today.”

Having sampled Michal’s takeaway, customers have flocked to the pub’s outside seating area since lockdown restrictions were eased on April 12.

The team will continue a full takeaway menu.
