Families in Malmesbury received an Easter surprise thanks to the generosity of the local community and charity HEALS of Malmesbury.

Volunteers delivered 90 chocolate Easter Eggs to children and 75β€Ž Easter goodie bags to mainly elderly residents.

They included cakes, hot cross buns and chocolate donated by the Gloucester Road Co-op, Waitrose and Partners Malmesbury and Morrisons in Chippenham. They also contained hand drawn Easter cards from children at St Joseph's Roman Catholic Primary and Malmesbury Church of England primary schools.

21 HEALS volunteers gave up part of their Easter weekend to deliver the special treats.

"β€ŽIt was a lot of work to put together our Easter surprise," said HEALS chair of trustees, Councillor Gavin Grant.

"It was made very worthwhile by the delighted look on the faces of the children and older residents when we called with the gifts.

"I am very grateful to the local supermarkets for their generosity and the kindness of our wonderful volunteers giving up their time.

"We could not do this without them."
